Visiting Miami County

Located just south of the Kansas City metro area, Miami County is known for the region's outdoor water sports, wineries, observatory, cider mill and big cat park.

The Hillsdale Lake region attracts about 1 million visitors annually to the state park, hunting areas, shooting range and marina. KC Watersports draws a crowd to its cable-waterski park with sand volleyball courts also providing family entertainment. Known as a fall favorite, the Louisburg Cider Mill provides family entertainment all year with its country store and windows that allow visitors a look at the operations. Before the days of Prohibition, Miami County was known for its wineries and vineyards. Those days have returned with a resurgence of wine production in the county.

Big cats, and little ones, are cared for at Cedar Cove Feline Conservatory and Nature Center. Volunteers care for more than 20 animals while providing educational opportunities for the public. When the stars come out, the Powell Observatory shines. The area's darker skies allow visitors to navigate other galaxies using the observatory's 30" telescope.
