Miami County's workforce draws on the metro region's amenities for living and working options. Whether it's a outing for new college graduates or an evening out with other executives, the region is able to offer quiet nights at home or exciting nights on the town.

Workforce

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the 2007 population in Local Area V, which includes Miami County, at 281,278. It represents 10 percent of the total population in the state. Between 2006 and 2007, eight of the regions 17 counties showed an increase in population, led by Miami County with a 2.5 percent increase.

The Miami County Labor Basin includes portions of counties in Kansas and Missouri. These reports assess the “Available Labor Pool” in this labor basin. The “Available Labor Pool” includes persons who are looking for employment or would consider changing their jobs for the right employment opportunity. The report details their educational levels, willingness to commute and pay expectations.

Much of the data presented in these reports are the same for all of the communities. However, the center-point analysis presented on pages 20 – 22 is unique to each community.

While Miami County lies within Local Area V, most of the county's residents work in Local Area III where Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties are located.


The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the 2007 population in Local Area III at 753,878. This three-county area represents approximately 27 percent of the total population in the state. Between 2006 and 2007, all three counties showed an increase in population.
