Miami County
EMS has recently organized the Mass Casualty Incident Response Team
to deal with any possible mass casualty situations that could happen
in or around Miami County. This team would respond to events such
as tornadoes striking a populated area, major bus accidents, major
vehicle accidents involving a large number of patients, or a terrorist
attack.
The Team utilizes
the MCI Response Trailer, which was purchased with a grant from
FEMA. This trailer is stocked with extra supplies that would be
needed on a major incident such as spine boards, trauma bandages,
IV’s, oxygen supplies and blankets. This trailer is activated
by one of the first arriving crews to an incident when they deem
it is needed. The trailer is pulled by one of the two Suburbans
EMS uses as Deputy Chief and Battalion Chief vehicles.
The Team has
received additional training in certain areas such as bio-terrorism,
Weapons of Mass Destruction and dealing with Mass Casualty situations
of any sorts. EMS will be doing continuing training on this several
times throughout the year.
