Department Function:

The Environmental Health Department administers and enforces the Environmental Health Sanitary Code and the Kansas Noxious Weed Law. The department is also responsible for the county's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program.

Through these varied functions the department:

  1. Permits and inspects septic system and private water well installations, licenses septic installers, designers and pumpers, and responds to various complaints.
  2. Controls noxious weed infestations on county right-of-way and properties, responds to noxious weed complaints, and offers assistance to all persons and organizations who own land in the county to control noxious weed infestations through a cost-share program.
  3. Accepts all non-hazardous household waste such as latex paint as well as any flammable, explosive, corrosive or poisonous materials from county residents at a permanent collection facility. These wastes are recycled or re-used when possible or packaged for proper disposal.
