Miami
County positions are considered open until filled. However, applying
by the posted closing date of an advertised position assures timely
evaluation for consideration of employment.
Applications
are forwarded to the hiring supervisor for review after the closing
date. After the hiring decision has been made, the Human Resources
Department will notify applicants that the position has been filled.
In the event
you are not selected for a position, Miami County may consider you
for other openings for which you qualify. Your application will

Who Receives
Benefits?
All regular
full-time employees are eligible to receive the full package of
County benefits. Elected Officials are also eligible to receive
County benefits, but do not accrue paid leave time. Regular part-time
employees may be eligible to receive certain benefits on a pro-rated
basis. Miami County participates in a Section 125 Cafeteria Plan
that allows employees' cost of benefits to be paid from salary before
taxes. This results in increased spendable income by decreasing
taxes.
Health
Insurance
Miami County
provides two health insurance plan options for eligible employees.
Coverage is effective on the first of the month following 90-days
of employment for regular, non-management employees. Miami County
fully pays for the single base plan HMO coverage. If an employee
chooses to enroll in the single or family "buy up" plan
options, the employee shares in the cost of the premium.
Dental
Insurance
Miami County
provides a dental insurance plan for eligible employees. Coverage
is effective on the first of the month following 90-days of employment
for regular, non-management employees. Miami County fully pays for
the single dental plan coverage. If an employee chooses to enroll
in the family plan, the employee shares in the cost of the premium.
Life
Insurance/Accidental Death & Dismemberment
Eligible employees
receive a life, accidental death and dismemberment policy, which
is fully paid by Miami County. Coverage is effective on the first
of the month following 30 days of employment for eligible employees.
Voluntary
Insurance Policies
Miami County
employees may also participate in other voluntary insurance programs,
which are paid by the employee through payroll deduction.
Deferred
Compensation
Miami County
participates in the following deferred compensation programs: International
City/County Managers Association (ICMA) and Nationwide Retirement
Solutions. All eligible employees may participate in these programs
by contributing a designated portion of pre-tax income into either
of these deferred compensation retirement programs.
Kansas
Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS)
This is a mandatory
retirement plan that becomes effective after one year of continuous
service for employees working at least 1,000 regularly scheduled
hours per year. Under KPERS, members contribute four percent (4%)
of their compensation. The County's contribution rate may fluctuate,
depending on the funding needs of the Retirement System. KPERS contributions
are excluded from gross income for federal income tax purposes.
Eligible employees of the EMS and Sheriff's Office are members of
KP&F (Kansas Police & Fire). KP&F membership is effective
immediately and members contribute seven percent (7%) of their compensation.
Flexible
Spending Account
A pre-determined
dollar amount may be set aside, on a pre-taxed basis, for eligible
medical expense reimbursement or dependent daycare.
Vacation
Leave
Eligible employees
accrue between 12-18 days per year depending on length of service.
Employees must have completed 6-months of service prior to using
such leave. Eligible part-time employees accrue vacation on a prorated
basis.
Sick
Leave
Eligible full-time
employees accrue 12 days of sick leave annually (not to exceed 960
hours). Sick leave may be used for personal illness or injury, immediate
family illness or injury, and necessary medical appointments. Eligible
part-time employees accrue sick leave on a prorated basis.
Personal
Leave
Eligible full-time
employees are entitled to one personal day of leave per year. Employees
must have completed 6-months of service prior to using such leave.
Personal Leave does not carryover from year to year.
Holidays
Eligible employees
receive the following 10 paid holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin
Luther King Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day,
Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving,
and Christmas Day. Eligible part-time employees receive holiday
pay for holidays on which they are scheduled to work for hours normally
worked.
Employees
Assistance Program
A toll-free,
24-hour support line is available to all employees and their family
members, providing a referral service of counseling benefits available
through County insurance plans.
Educational
Assistance Program
The Educational
Assistance Program reimburses eligible employees for tuition and
fees for college coursework related to the employee's position.
Direct
Deposit Payroll
Employees have
the option to have their salary directly deposited to the financial
institution(s) of their choice. Direct deposits may be split between
multiple accounts. Employees are paid every other Friday for all
hours worked through the prior Friday.
