| Miami
County was first organized as Lykins County in 1855 while Kansas
was still a territory, and was renamed "Miami County"
in 1861 after Kansas became a state.
Miami County
is located 40 miles south of Kansas City on the Kansas-Missouri
state line. The population of Miami County is approximately 30,000
and is rapidly increasing due to the proximity of the Kansas City
metropolis.
Thirty-nine
men have served as County Sheriff.
